Note1
As   'Wire Chief' I had to maintain equipment and one day a motor used in tape recorder burned out and there was no replacement.  I managed to find  a  small German Firm who had  facilities to rewind the stator . The firm belonged to Athur  Schomandl who was then experimenting with ECGs. He needed low noise vacuum tubes which were then prohibited to Germans by the US  Authorities. I had access to 6AK5s and I gave him some. This bloomed into a close friendship
between us, Arthur was an interesting guy -Master Chess Player,  Bavarian Table Tennis Champion, Son of the Conductor of the Graz  Symphony and married to the Duughter of an Austrian Gerneral. - poor beastie - He also had a number of mistresses  Hermine Freisinger being one of them and he handed her over to me.
Hermine was another interesting specimen. Her three brothers had been in the SS but Hermine was very open minded she eventually spent three years on  a  Kibutz. I would have married Hermine but she was about 7 years my senior and I had principles -  one was not to marry an older women-.Anyway,  she turned up in my life from time to time. She loved Anita and spent some time with us in the US. She married an Architect and bought herself a small village church and school in the Bavarian Alps..

Note 2

Lizzi alo became a friend of both of us and we had an active correspondence, but she disappeared from our lives somewhat tragically; She was engaged to a Norwegian naval officer attached to the Norwegiaen embassy while we were living in London and she arranged to visit him and us. What happened we never found out. She did not come and we never heard from her again
